Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for April 18-24

The Athlete of the Week nominees for April 18-24. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Tuesday’s paper. Each weekly winner will be included in an Athlete of the Month poll.

Alyson Dahl | Stanwood | Girls Tennis

Dahl, a senior, pulled out a pair of three-set victories in No. 1 singles matches on back-to-back days while helping the Spartans to a 2-0 week. Dahl defeated Arlington’s Makenzie Caple 6-3, 6-7(3-7), 10-2 on April 14 and Marysville Pilchuck’s Brooke Asper 5-7, 6-4, 10-8 on April 15. Dahl won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week voting for April 11-17 by claiming 580 of 1,672 votes.

Broderick Bluhm | Meadowdale | Baseball

Bluhm, a junior, hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Meadowdale to a 2-1 win over Edmonds-Woodway on April 22. Bluhm finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and also struck out six batters over eight innings on the mound while allowing one unearned run and three hits.

Laila Carpenter | Glacier Peak | Softball

Carpenter, a junior, hit a pair of home runs, including the go-ahead two-run blast in the top of the seventh inning, to lift Glacier Peak to a 3-1 win over Lake Stevens on April 18.

Conrad Chisman | Stanwood | Boys Golf

Chisman, a sophomore, fired a 2-under 33 to earn medalist honors during a four-team meet at Cedarcrest Golf Course on April 20.

Moussa Diaby | Cascade | Boys Soccer

Diaby, a senior, scored all three goals of Cascade’s goals while helping the Bruins go 1-0-1. Diaby netted two goals in a 2-0 win over Meadowdale on April 19 and added another goal in the Bruins’ 1-1 tie with Mountlake Terrace on April 22.

Cameron Dunn | Mountlake Terrace | Softball

Dunn, a junior, hit five home runs and drove in 13 runs over three games during a stellar week at the plate for Mountlake Terrace. Dunn mashed three home runs and drove in six runs in Mountlake Terrace’s 26-0 rout of Shorecrest on April 19, hit a solo home run in an 8-1 loss to Marysville Pilchuck on April 21 and homered and drove in six more runs in a 12-2 win over West Seattle on April 22.

Heaven Kim | Kamiak | Girls Golf

Kim, a sophomore, shot a 6-over 42 to earn medalist honors during a five-team meet at Snohomish Golf Course on April 20.

Emily Lin | Shorewood | Girls Tennis

Lin, a sophomore, went 3-0 in her No. 1 singles matches while helping Shorewood a trio of wins. Lin didn’t drop a set in her first two victories and closed her week with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Edmonds-Woodway’s Paige Oliver.

Laura Meno | Arlington | Girls Track & Field

Meno, a senior, won the shot put with a mark of 36 feet, 11.75 inches and finished second in the discus with a personal-best throw of 111 feet, 2 inches at the Viking Classic on April 23. Meno’s mark in the discus ranks fifth in Class 3A this spring according to Athletic.net.

Amado Toyo | Shorecrest | Boys Track & Field

Toyo, a senior, cruised to a victory in the 300-meter hurdles with a winning time of 39.52 seconds at the Eason Invitational on April 23. Toyo finished 1.85 seconds in front of his nearest competitor and also took second in the 110 hurdles with a personal-best time of 14.69 seconds.
