Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for March 28-April 3

The Athlete of the Week nominees for March 28-April 3. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Tuesday’s paper. Each weekly winner will be included in an Athlete of the Month poll.

Gabe Herrera | Archbishop Murphy | Boys Soccer

Herrera, a sophomore, scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Wildcats to a 3-1 win over Arlington on March 22. He won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week voting for March 21-27 by claiming 549 (28.4%) of 1,934 votes.

This week’s nominees

Kale Hammer | Snohomish | Baseball

Hammer, a junior, struck out a whopping 17 batters over six innings while allowing just one run on two hits and a walk as the Panthers beat Stanwood 9-1 on April 1.

Daniel Kim | Kamiak | Boys Golf

Kim, a senior, fired a 5-under 31 on his way to a first-place finish in a four-team meet at Snohomish Golf Course on March 29.

Hannah Lee | Glacier Peak | Girls Golf

Lee, a senior, shot a 2-over 38 for a first-place finish in a four-team Wesco 4A golf meet at Battle Creek Golf Course on March 30. Lee also finished first in a head-to-head matchup with Jackson on March 28.

Hailey Pelletier | Jackson | Softball

Pelletier, a sophomore, went 8-for-11 with three extra-base hits and six RBI over three wins for the Timberwolves. She delivered 3-for-4 outings in victories over Arlington on March 28 and Shorewood on April 1, including a home run and four RBI against Arlington.

Lyle Pinaula | Cascade | Boys Track & Field

Pinaula, a senior, won the long jump with a personal-best leap of 21 feet, 6.5 inches in a three-team meet at Mariner High School on March 31. Pinaula also helped the Bruins’ 4×100 relay team to winning time of 44.81 seconds and finished fourth in the 100- and 200-meter races. Pinaula’s long jump ranks third in the state in Class 3A, according to Athletic.net.

Fedel Tewolde | Mountlake Terrace | Boys Soccer

Tewolde, a junior, scored three goals in Mountlake Terrace’s 6-0 win over Stanwood on March 29.

Lilly Thompson | Everett | Girls Tennis

Thompson, a senior, won all three of her No. 2 singles matches while helping Everett to a 3-0 week. Thompson’s week started with a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 victory on March 29 and ended with a 6-0, 6-0 win on April 1.

Gilana Wollman | Shorewood | Girls Track & Field

Wollman, a senior, won the 100 meters, 200 meters and the long jump at a three-team meet at Stanwood High School on March 31. Wollman ran the 100 in a personal-best 12.52 seconds, the 200 26.59 seconds and posted a personal-best long jump of 17 feet, 10 inches. She also helped the Stormrays’ 4×100 relay team to a winning time of 51.7 seconds. Wollman’s time in the 100 and mark in the long jump both rank third in Class 3A, according to Athletic.net.
