Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for Oct. 18-24

The Athlete of the Week nominees for Oct. 18-24. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with next week’s poll and in next Tuesday’s paper. Each weekly winner will be included in an Athlete of the Month poll.

Bella Nguon | Everett | Girls soccer

Nguon, a sophomore, netted a hat trick and added an assist in the Seagulls’ 7-1 win over Lynnwood on Oct. 14. She won the Athlete of the Week voting for Oct. 11-17 by claiming 551 (32.5%) of 1,695 votes.

This week’s nominees

Barrett Anderson | Stanwood | Volleyball

Anderson, a junior, posted a team-high 16 kills to go with 11 digs and two aces in the Spartans’ back-and-forth five-set victory over Class 3A No. 3 Arlington on Oct. 21. She also had seven kills and six digs in a 3-0 win over Marysville Pilchuck on Oct. 19.

Emma Arceo | Kamiak | Girls cross country

Arceo, a senior, finished first at the Wesco 4A Cross Country Championships meet in Arlington on Oct. 23. She completed the 5,000-meter course in 18 minutes, 54.5 seconds.

Mary Clarke | Snohomish | Girls swim and dive

Clarke, a sophomore, swam the 50-yard freestyle in 25.0 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 59.56 seconds for a pair of victories in a dual meet against Glacier Peak on Oct. 19. She was also a member of the Panthers’ victorious 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams. Clarke hit Class 3A state qualifying times in both of her individual events.

Aiden Emerson | Arlington | Boys cross country

Emerson, a senior, finished first at the Wesco 3A North Cross Country Championships meet in Arlington on Oct. 23. He ran the 5,000-meter course in 15 minutes, 51.7 seconds.

Kaelyn Fernandez | Jackson | Girls soccer

Ferndandez, a senior, netted a hat trick in the Timberwolves’ 7-0 win over Mariner on Oct. 19. She also had a goal and an assist in Jackson’s 5-0 win over Kamiak on Oct. 21.

Aaron Lee and Josh Lee | Kamiak | Boys tennis

Aaron Lee, a senior, and Josh Lee, a senior, won the Class 4A Northwest District doubles title with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Lake Stevens’ Max Hein and Dillon Wells on Oct. 19.

Ben Lee | Jackson | Boys tennis

Lee, a freshman, won the Class 4A Northwest District singles title with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over teammate Henry Park on Oct. 19.

Cole Pruett | Monroe | Football

Pruett, a senior, hauled in a 22-yard TD pass and caught the difference-making 2-point attempt in overtime as the Bearcats’ outlasted Snohomish 42-40 and forced a three-way tie for the Wesco 3A South title. Pruett finished with five catches for 41 yards and returned one of his two interceptions on defense 79 yards for a score.

Justice Taylor | Lakewood | Football

Taylor, a senior, piled up six touchdowns and 289 yards of offense in the Cougars’ 50-21 win over Sehome on Oct. 23. He completed 10 of 17 passes for 138 yards and four scores and rushed for 151 yards and two TDs on 16 carries.
