MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — A fugitive arrested by police and an FBI SWAT team made an initial appearance in federal court Monday.

The 50-year-old man was arrested on a federal charge of copyright infringement and a local warrant for investigation of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes, authorities said.

The incident began about 3 a.m. Friday when the FBI asked Mountlake Terrace police to help them arrest a man believed to be living in the 5700 block of 224th Street SW, police Detective Sgt. Craig McCaul said Monday.

The FBI used a SWAT team because the man is considered armed and dangerous and has been known to have assault rifles and explosive devices.

Police and the South Snohomish County SWAT Team cordoned off a large area, McCaul said. The FBI’s SWAT team later relieved the south county unit, he said.

About an hour later, the suspect and another resident of the house left in a vehicle and were stopped by police and the SWAT team. The suspect was arrested without incident. The driver was released.
