Published 9:00 pm Friday, August 31, 2001

Opponent: Vancouver Canadians

When: 6:05 p.m.

Where: Everett Memorial Stadium

Radio: KSER (90.7 FM)

Probable starting pitchers: Everett right-hander Phil Cullen (1-3, 3.91) vs. right-hander Christian Gonzalez (1-7, 2.42)

On the move: All three of Everett’s Northwest League All-Stars have been promoted to playoff teams higher up in the Mariners’ organization. Infielder Tim Merritt and right-handed pitcher Jorge Sosa are being sent to Wisconsin for the Midwest League playoffs. Infielder Greg Dobbs will join San Bernardino for the California League playoffs.

Merritt will help Wisconsin make up for the loss injured infielder Pedro Liriano, who played in four games for the AquaSox last season. Dobbs will give San Bernardino another left-handed hitter to make up for the loss to injury of former AquaSox All-Star Chris Snelling.

Right-handed pitcher Gus Martinez is expected to join the Tacoma Rainiers for the Pacific Coast League playoffs. But he has one more scheduled start for the AquaSox on Sunday.

Joining the AquaSox from Peoria, which finished its Arizona League season Friday, are infielders Alejandro Cadena and Eriberto Menchaca, catcher Chris Collins and pitchers Tanner Watson, Tony Javier and Travis Allen. All six are players who could possibly spend next summer in Everertt, manager Terry Pollreisz said.
