Some other site must be better

This refers to the decision of the Everett City Council to build a recreational arena on Hewitt, forcing a number of small businesses to move or close. Having had to be away with family most of the summer, it was a great shock to learn of this plan as I walked down Hewitt Avenue, going past historic buildings, neat stores and a really fine thrift shop.

I am sure the council members are motivated by a sincere desire “to do something for downtown Everett,” but it does seem odd that an old part of Everett has to be destroyed. Surely space could be available elsewhere!
