CAMANO ISLAND — The body of a partially clad woman was discovered Tuesday morning near the entrance to Camano Island State Park, according to the Island County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman apparently died of injuries to her neck and head, Island County sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Smith said.

Detectives are investigating the death as a homicide.

The woman’s body was found about 11:30 a.m. by a man walking his dog on a trail between the park and Cama Beach State Park. The trail is near the parking lot and Lowell Point Road and is visible from the roadway.

Investigators believe the body was dumped at the park, Smith said. It is unknown where the murder occurred.

The woman likely was killed the previous day, according to the sheriff’s office.

The victim appeared to be in her 30s. She is described as a white woman, 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing about 105 pounds. She has sandy brown hair and hazel eyes.

She was wearing dark-colored clothing and had a turquoise ring on her left finger and a bracelet of silver links on her left wrist.

Her identity was not known. The Island County coroner was expected to perform an autopsy Tuesday night.

The 134-acre park was closed for several hours while detectives investigated the scene. People visiting the park were not able to leave immediately while investigators working at the entrance questioned possible witnesses, Smith said.

Anyone with information about the woman or who may have seen or heard unusual activity in the area should contact detective Shawn Warwick or detective Sgt. Mike Beech at 360-679-9567.
