EVERETT — Aaron Reardon was sworn in as Snohomish County’s third executive in a private ceremony just before noon on Wednesday.

Fewer than 10 members of Reardon’s staff attended the ceremony, along with Reardon’s wife, Kate, and daughter, Madeline.

The swearing-in ceremony, which was closed to the public and the media, was held in Reardon’s new office in the county administration building. Mark Funk, a spokesman for Reardon, said the new executive was given the oath of office "in case there was something that happened in the last hours."

Other county leaders elected in November must wait until next week to be sworn in.

County Council members Kirke Sievers and Gary Nelson will take their oaths of office at 9 a.m. Monday in council chambers. Superior Court Judge Thomas Wynne will administer the oaths.

Reardon will take his oath again at a ceremonial swearing-in event at 11 a.m. Monday at the Everett Events Center. He will give his inaugural address at about 11:30 a.m. The speech will be broadcast live on radio station KRKO (1380 AM).

That ceremony is open to the public.

Reardon takes the helm of county government from outgoing Executive Bob Drewel, who served 12 years in the post but couldn’t run again because of term limits.
