Rotary picks: December Rotary Club of Everett Students of the Month are Joe Suchan of Archbishop Murphy High School; Gargi Ghakraborty of Cascade High School and Grant Haines of Everett High School.

Off to D.C.: Chris Hoover of Everett will attend the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in March in Washington, D.C. Chris is a student at St. Mary Magdalen School.

Rotary pick: Zachary Wegermann, a senior at Kamiak High School, has been named student of the month by the South Everett and Mukilteo Rotary Club. The son of Alan and Valerie Wegermann, Zachary was honored for his academic, athletic and community activities. With a grade-point average of 3.933, he has been active in the academic coaches program, Key Club, Honor Society and is an Eagle Scout. He plays soccer, was a two-year varsity member of the swim and dive team, a four-year member of the school’s Concert Band and a member of the show band. He marched in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in New York. He has held the Level 1 Alpine certification for skiing instructor for four years, was a representative of the Kamiak Associated Student Body for two years and won the Lamp of Knowledge award for concert band, symphonic band and U.S. history.

Honor roll: Stephanie Cochrun of Lake Stevens is on the honor roll at Montana State University-Billings.

Talent awards: The city of Everett Cultural Commission and the Arts Council of Snohomish County have announced winners in the 2004 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. The program aims to give young artists and writers the opportunity to be recognized for their creative achievements. The Scholastic Writing Awards and the Scholastic Art Awards Ceremonies will be combined. Public recognition will be given at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Historic Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby Ave., Everett. The public is also invited to attend the Scholastic Art Awards opening reception 5-9 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Historic Monte Cristo Hotel, 1507 Wall St. in Everett. Winners include:

Winning entries will be on display in the ballroom at the Historic Monte Cristo Hotel, 1507 Wall Street, Everett, from Feb. 2-6. After the exhibit, American Vision Best of Show and Gold Key artwork will be sent to New York for the National Scholastic Art Awards competition.
