Everett furniture disposal event needs volunteers

EVERETT — The first furniture disposal and recycling event sponsored by the city begins at 9 a.m. today and continues until 3 p.m.
Everett residents may drop off downright junky furniture at 2731 36th St., across from the Everett Animal Shelter.
Ever since Everett codes compliance officer Jon Schmidt offered to pick up furniture from some of the city’s elderly residents, his phone has been ringing off the hook. As of Thursday evening, he had 30 residents signed up.
"The bad news is that we aren’t getting the number of volunteers confirmed that signed up previously to work the event," he said.
Schmidt is looking for volunteers today to help lift couches and chairs — and spirits. If you can help, call 425-210-6813.
"Neighbors helping neighbors is a great way to lighten the load and get things done," he said.
