Where have all the voters gone?

When my husband and I bought our first home 12 years ago, we looked at the typical things: size of house, size of yard, neighborhood, etc. But the most important thing we looked for was a smaller, close-knit community that had a great school district. We researched and chose Lakewood School District and have never regretted the decision. Our kids have had awesome, loving, nurturing teachers, great principals and attentive administrators. They are growing and thriving. They love going to school and come home with new information each and every day. We’ve seen many parents and families involved and many that aren’t.

Tuesday’s election is absolutely crucial for our kids. Their academic curriculum is dependent on passing the levy. After-school sports and activities will be no longer available if the levy doesn’t pass. Teachers and staff will lose their jobs. Transportation will be affected. This affects my children and this affects your children who attend Lakewood. Don’t we want the best for our kids? Only 13 percent of the normal “yes” voters (supporters) voted at the polls during the last levy. That is pathetic, sad, disappointing, disheartening and downright wrong. Where is everyone? Please vote on Tuesday. It only takes a few minutes out of your day and the rewards will be for four years and our kids will reap the benefits.
