50 years ago (1954)

Pearl Wanamaker, state superintendent of public instruction, was to address the Everett Kiwanis Club. In addition, the club had invited members to bring guests who were interested in public schools. Grover Love was in charge of the program.

25 years ago (1979)

U.S. Sen. Warren G. Magnuson wrote an article for The Herald on supertankers on Puget Sound. In it, he reaffirmed his position of retaining a ban on allowing them in the Sound. He said that even with precautions, spills would still occur.

Jim Ream, sales manager for “C” Jays Realty in east Everett, was elected Realtor of the Year by the Snohomish County-Camano Board of Realtors. Ream was an immediate past president of the board and a director of the Washington Association of Realtors, where he also served on several committees.
