50 years ago (1954)
Housing authorities from the Puget Sound region met in Everett, with workshops and a dinner at the Elks club. Tom Murray, manager of the Port of Everett, was dinner speaker. Lester Beard, director of the Everett Housing Authority, said the meeting embraced rentals and maintenance.
Members of the Pepperettes were preparing for the Western Washington Horizon Conference here. The girls presented a placard to Nelle Moreau, personnel director and assistant manager of the Bon Marche. Among the girls were Yvonne Bunney, Nancy Justice, Louise Peppel, Kate Blunt and Marilee Weaver.
25 years ago (1979)
A Burlington Northern tank car loaded with potentially explosive liquid propane overturned in downtown Everett and an from Everett Avenue to Pacific Avenue, and Colby Avenue to Walnut Street was evacuated. Residents and workers couldn’t return for 16 hours.
Dr. Robert Anderson, a family practitioner in Edmonds, was presenting an eight-week course in stress management at High Point Northwest on Edmonds Way. Included would be relaxation exercises, communication skills and discussion of the effects of stress.
