Super kid

Having a say: As one of two student representatives on the Stanwood-Camano School Board, gives reports on happenings at the high school and donations made to district schools. Then he reports back on district matters to his peers.
But not too much: Afraid of speaking in public before large groups of people, he describes himself as “quiet and shy.” Nevertheless, he often finds himself doing just that as a leadership student.
Speaking for him: School staff say Brandon is a quiet leader who is dedicated, honest and eager. When others give up, he pushes forward. “He just does everything and not in a showy way,” said Andrea Conley, who works in the main office. “I know that he’s going to be successful as an adult because he’s self-motivated and … doesn’t brag about himself.”
Active: Helps organize fund-raisers and blood drives, as well as school assemblies. Also serves as a student representative on the district’s secondary redesign and healthy foods committees. “It’s fun.” Also a member of the Environmental Club and Future Business Leaders of America.
Bored at the board? Concedes some parts of school board meetings aren’t exciting. But he enjoys the part many others like least: budget reports. “I like numbers.”
To wit: Plans to be an investment banker. “It seems like it’d be a fun job. You get to take other people’s money and invest in ways you think are good.”
But first: Before finding a college, he plans to move to Salt Lake City to be closer to his dad and eight younger siblings, who range in age from 8 months to 14 years. “It’s really different, because I live here with my mom, and I’m like an only child, and I go over there, and I’m one of many.” As the oldest, he’s a role model to his siblings. “It’s kind of intimidating, having all these little people looking up to you.”
Family factoid: His ancestors were among the first 20 families to settle Salt Lake City. “There’s a whole bunch of us there.”
Books: Currently rereading the novel, “The Virgin Suicides.” Also likes science fiction.
Priorities: Family and friends are at the forefront of his mind these days. “Just living a happy, fulfilled life.”
