Pools and lakes’ soothing waters offer relief from heat

There are lots of places to cool off in Snohomish County. Here are a few locations:
* McCollum Park pool opens today near Mill Creek. To get there, exit I-5 at 128th Street SE, head east and look for the park on your right. 425-388-6602.
* Yost Park Pool in Edmonds opens today, 9535 Bowdoin Way. 425-775-2645 or 425-771-1346.
* Hal Moe Memorial Pool, 405 Third St., Snohomish, will be open today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for lap swimming and from 1:15 to 2:45 p.m. for playing. The pool will be closed Sunday and Monday.
* Wenberg State Park on Lake Goodwin. Exit I-5 at 172nd Street NE-Lakewood Road and head west. To reserve a campsite, call 360-652-7417 or 888-CAMP-OUT.
* Kayak Regional Park on Marine Drive south of Stanwood. 360-652-7992.
* Lake Stevens has several access points for swimming and boating. Take the U.S. 2 trestle east from I-5, go straight on 20th Street SE and then head north on Lake Stevens Road.
* Gissberg Twin Lakes, next to I-5 in Smokey Point. Exit on 172nd Street NE and head west. It’s the first turn on the left after the I-5 interchange. 425-388-6600.
* Thornton A. Sullivan Park on Silver Lake, 11404 Silver Lake Road. Lifeguards will not be present until mid-June, but the park is open. 425-257-8300.
