Baseler on Boeing

Boeing senior vice president of marketing Randy Baseler discusses everything but his blog in this interview with trade magazine Airline Fleet &Network Management, (which once again I am shamelessly poaching from Scott Hamilton). http://www.aviationindustrygroup.com/downloads/afnminterviewrandyba-1169-1175.pdf
Instead, he talks about the company’s recently concluded record sales year, the prospects for 2006, and why he thinks the 747-8, 777 and 787 will continue to dominate the market over Airbus.
Key Quote: “‘We think (Airbus’strategy) is wonderful, particularly in the twin-aisle sector. To us, it looks like absolute disarray. When they announced the A350, they rendered obsolete the A330 and A340, and by not taking into consideration all the breakthrough technologies they’ve fallen short of the 787.’”
Baseler also talks glowingly of the 737 in the interview, noting that “The four most profitable low-cost airlines — Southwest, Ryanair, Gol and Virgin Blue — are 737 operators.”
The 737 also was the topic of his most-recent update on his blog http://www.boeing.com/randy/
Key Quote: “The Next-Generation 737, which we launched in 1993, is 10 years younger than the competing aircraft, the A320 series. It has lower operating costs, and superior structural efficiency. Prime reasons why the newer 737s fly farther and higher, and consume less fuel.”
