Boeing and B/E

As noted below, Boeing commercial airplanes chief Alan Mulally was in Miami last week — no doubt to get some black beans and rice, and maybe some jerked chicken. But while in town he also delivered a speech http://southflorida.bizjournals.com/southflorida/stories/2006/04/03/story5.html on the state of the aerospace industry to business and political leaders, reports the South Florida Business Journal.
It looks like he talked up — as he often does — the virtues of point-to-point air travel.
Key Quote: “‘Many people flying into hubs don’t want to be there,’ Mulally told … business and political leaders … at the planetarium of the Miami Museum of Science on March 27. ‘Airlines now can take us where we want to go.’”
The Business Journal notes that Florida is home to a significant cadre of aerospace suppliers, including B/E Aerospace, the parent company of Flight Structures Inc. in Marysville. The paper got a few minutes with B/E CEO Amin Khoury.
Key Quote: “While B/E usually sells to airlines rather than directly to Boeing, the aerospace giant’s growth has been crucial for his company, Khoury said. B/E has already agreed to make the oxygen system for the Dreamliner, which will start major production in 2007 and be delivered to airlines in 2008.”
