EVERETT – An Everett man remained hospitalized Friday after he was struck by a pickup while crossing W. Casino Road on Thursday.

The 23-year-old man was being treated in the intensive care unit at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Everett police Lt. Ted Olafson said.

Police believe they have identified the man after receiving calls from relatives, Olafson said.

Witnesses told police the man was crossing W. Casino Road about 2:40 p.m. when he was hit by a Ford Ranger pickup. Police believe the man was crossing legally in a marked crosswalk across from the Fred Meyer store.

The impact threw the man through the air. Witnesses told police he didn’t move after the landing on the road. He was taken by helicopter to Harborview.

Police led the driver away in handcuffs. The 24-year-old Everett woman was detained for a short time, but was not arrested or cited, Olafson said.

Detectives continue to investigate whether the woman was speeding when she struck the man.

Police received a grant specifically to target drivers who don’t stop for pedestrians in that crosswalk. Neighbors have complained that the crosswalk is dangerous and have asked the city to install a stoplight or pedestrian overpass or move the crosswalk farther from Evergreen Way.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call the Everett Police Department tip line at 425-257-8450.
