EVERETT – U.S. Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich are coming to the area this week to help the campaign of Republican congressional candidate Doug Roulstone.
Roulstone is challenging three-term incumbent U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen, D-Wash.
This afternoon, Kempthorne, the former governor of Idaho, will be the featured guest at a fundraiser in a home in Mount Vernon. The event is from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 3200 Shelly Hill Road.

On Saturday, Gingrich will headline a luncheon at the Everett Events Center. Gingrich has visited the area before, having stumped for former U.S. Rep. Jack Metcalf, the last Republican to hold the 2nd Congressional District seat.
Tickets are $150 for the luncheon, $1,000 for lunch and a photo with Gingrich and Roulstone. Seating is limited but tickets were still available Wednesday.

Teegarden seeks seat on PUD commission
MOUNTLAKE TERRACE – Eric Teegarden, a Mountlake Terrace resident, has announced he is running for a seat on the commission that guides the Snohomish County Public Utility District.
Teegarden will challenge Kathleen Vaughn, a two-term incumbent and the current president of the three-member commission.
Teegarden is a civil engineer with the city of Seattle and has twice run for Mountlake Terrace City Council.
His campaign will formally kick off with a potluck picnic at North Lynnwood Neighborhood Park from 3 to 5 p.m. July 30. The park is at 18510 44th Ave. W., Lynnwood.
