50 years ago (1956)

Mayor George Culmback dined with Rick Lukehart, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Lukehart of Stanwood, in a recruit gallery at the San Diego Naval Training Center. The mayor and 30 other state residents were special guests of the Navy. Lukehart was going through recruit training.

George Baird, president of Everett Exchange, and Earl Gerdon, the club’s speaker, presented awards to Geoff Price and Bonnie Baker, who were named Boy and Girl of the Month for August.

25 years ago (1981)

Barry Hilbert of Everett would be attending the meeting of the West Coast branch of the Ford Retractable Club in Issaquah this weekend. He would be taking his 1958 and 1959 models.

Scott Darrough was leading a group of teenagers in the Youth Conservation Corps in helping nature reclaim the Mount Pilchuck Ski Area. They were transplanting native ferns, grasses and flowers in the rich earth.
