50 years ago (1956)

Holly Mackey, 3415 Bell Ave., Everett, entertained members of the FAC Club. Guests were her neighbors, Frances Stamey and Violet Sunde. After an informal evening, refreshments were served by the hostess, assisted by Lucille Miller and Betty Fankhauser.

Dave Schroedl of Silvana 4-H and Eugene McPhail of Forest Glade 4-H judged green tomatoes. Aileen Satushek of Guys and Gals 4-H of Bryant and Anna Marie Hall of Merry Mixers 4-H of Marysville examined a garment. It was all part of the annual Snohomish County 4-H Fair in Marysville.

25 years ago (1981)

After 40 years in what he called a young man’s game, Chuck Walsh said he couldn’t be happier after he retired last month as Snohomish’s fire chief. Walsh, 65, said he’d been a firefighter throughout his adult life and Snohomish chief for 26 years, first as a volunteer and then full time.

Officials agreed with the state that the historic turn-of-the-century Avenue D bridge in Snohomish needed replacement. Councilman Gary Ferguson was concerned about the community getting to choose among the four replacement designs. Councilman Paul Shinoda thought a ballot box should be set up. Don Kusler suggested the old bridge be restored.
