Seeking sunny skies: Will soon visit Arizona State University. Has never been to the Grand Canyon state but was always interested in ASU. “I like hot weather.”

Priorities: “It’s called a party school but I don’t party.” His idea of a good time is studying in a library and hitting the gym. Otherwise, he figures he’ll get to know his dorm walls well.

Also on the list: May also apply to the University of Arizona, University of California Los Angeles, University of Texas and University of Washington. “I want to go out of state. UW is my last choice. … I wouldn’t really be learning to live by myself as much if I weren’t out of state.”

Ace student: Has carried a 4.0 grade-point average and plans to maintain it during a challenging senior year that includes college-level Advanced Placement calculus and a UW extension course in third-year Spanish.

Driven: “I’ve always had the ambition to just try my hardest. This year’s going to be kind of hard. But I’ll be able to do it.”

Advice to frosh: Helps lead freshmen orientations and tells them to “never fall behind.”

Baseball player: Second baseman for the varsity baseball team, his third year lettering.

Morning person: In winter months, he organizes hourlong baseball drills that start on campus at 6 a.m. Brand new batting cages built with community donations will make it even more exciting this year.

Summer I: Reread the Harry Potter series. That’s six books and 3,365 pages. “The thicker ones are easier to read because you don’t want to put them down.”

Summer II: Bulked up for baseball by eating mass quantities of food and lifting weights. “I’m trying to build muscle mass to get bigger and faster and stronger.” Gained 10 pounds in one month. “I haven’t been hungry in a long time. I’m always full.”

Wears Fox Racing gear: But no longer rides motocross motorcycles since his brother, now 19, crashed and went into a coma some years back. He’s better now.

Social life: Unless it’s around barbells or textbooks, he doesn’t see his friends much. No time to watch TV or movies. Likes being busy. “I don’t get bored that easily because I can always find something to be productive.”

Future plans: Major in business management with a health and fitness minor and perhaps open his own gym.

Loves being a Viking: “People are really nice. I’ve never had a bad teacher.”
