Mothers get their day

Happy Mother’s Day! To help you celebrate, The Buzz presents stories to warm your heart on this special day.
A mobster only a mother could love. Mobsters love their mothers, and they’re not afraid to show it. (http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/07/05/13/100wir_a2mothers001.cfm?refresh=yes) Mother’s Day is the one day each year the mob takes off crime. Touching. Truly touching. Monday, however, it’s murder and mayhem as normal. They love their mothers, but that doesn’t mean they’re upstanding citizens.
“My mom has a huge heart.” Children explain why their mother is the best in the world. (http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/07/05/13/100loc_b1momwow001.cfm?refresh=yes and http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/07/05/13/100loc_b1bestmother001.cfm?refresh=yes) Parents, these essays should be framed and preserved. Pull them out again when your kids reach adolescence. You can then remind them about the value of countless hours spent as chauffeur, chef and head cheerleader.
Mother Nature. While you’re thanking Mom for all she does, don’t forget to give Mother Earth some attention. If you need ideas to get started, this week’s crafts column suggests a decorative bird house or a praying mantis egg-hatching house. (http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/07/05/13/100tra_tl11craft001.cfm?refresh=yes) The praying mantis is fascinating, but don’t let the kids examine the insects’ relationship skills too closely. The whole female-eating-her-mate thing is a smidge creepy.
