Even "Heroes" can’t make NBC No. 1

Today we’d like to start with a couple tidbits from the superhero front:

  • “Heroes” was NBC’s lone new hit of last season, and now the network is turning to the supernatural to save itself, with a fall lineup heavy on things not quite of this world (http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/07/05/15/100ae_e6nbc001.cfm).

New shows include a “Bionic Woman” remake and a series about a time-traveling reporter, perhaps inspired by NBC’s yearning for the halcyon days when “ER” was good, it still had “Friends” and it was successful someplace besides an alternate universe.

  • “Spider-Man 3” must be doing something heroic for the Meridian theater in Seattle, because a quick glance at today’s movie listings revealed that the theater is showing it 31 times. Either Spidey’s raking in the dough, or the theater has a very persuasive projector operator with a thing for Mary Jane.

That’s not fa-air. Adding insult to injury, a new study has found that people who thought they were being treated unfairly were more likely to suffer chest pain or a heart attack (http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/07/05/15/100wir_a3unfair001.cfm).

On the upside, though, parents now have a compelling reason why kids shouldn’t whine about the injustice of bedtime or curfew or why you won’t let them go to all 31 showings of “Spider-Man 3.”
