Jazz musicians needed for group

The Jazzinators community jazz ensemble is accepting new members of all abilities. Players of all instruments are welcome to join.

Rehearsals begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Arlington and continue on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through July 17.

Edmonds

Etiquette classes offered for young

Children and teenagers can learn proper etiquette and manners through a set of workshops being offered by Final Touch Finishing School.

One workshop, for children ages 6 through 11, is scheduled from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. July 12. The other, for children and teens ages 11 through 17, is scheduled the same day from 1:15 to 5:15 p.m. Each workshop costs $47 and will take place at the Edmonds Parks and Recreation building at 700 Main St.

The hands-on workshops will teach telephone etiquette, basic table manners, introductions, personal care, posture, presentation skills, appearance tips and etiquette for social events such as shopping and dining.

Bookmobile on summer schedule

The Everett Public Library Bookmobile schedule is changing for the summer starting this week.

It will be at Grandview Community Center, 716 Linden St., on Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and at Hawthorne Elementary School, 1110 Poplar St., on Thursdays from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Children can participate in the library’s summer reading program, “Get a Clue at Your Library,” by choosing books to read from the Bookmobile. They can later turn in reading lists for prizes.

Soundkeeper training offered

A free seminar highlighting common sources of pollutants that end up in Puget Sound is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Chart Room at The Inn at Port Gardner, 1700 W. Marine View Drive.

The lesson aims to teach people how they can monitor water quality and ways to report apparent violations of clean-water rules.

The event is sponsored by the Stilly-Snohomish Fisheries Enhancement Task Force and Puget Soundkeeper Alliance.

Tickets available for HOPE auction

Horsemanship Opportunities for Potential Equestrians has planned an art auction fundraiser for 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Useless Bay Country Club on Whidbey Island.

HOPE is a nonprofit organization that has been providing therapeutic horsemanship activities for those with special needs in Island County and the surrounding areas for 21 years.

Advance tickets are $20 per pair. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door for $25 per pair.

Eagle Ridge Park update on agenda

An update on improvements at Eagle Ridge Park is among the agenda items for a meeting of the Park Board on Wednesday.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Community-Senior Center, 1808 Main St.

Also planned are a presentation regarding possible addition of playground equipment at Lundeen Park by the Kiwanis Club and an Eagle Scout presentation regarding North Cove Park.

Lynnwood

Blood center to change hours

Puget Sound Blood Center is planning to change the hours of operation at its Lynnwood Donor Center starting July 1.

The center’s new hours will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays; noon to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Sundays.

The Lynnwood Donor Center is at 19723 Highway 99, Suite F. The changes are being made to accommodate donors’ schedules.

Marysville

Road designs on panel’s agenda

Possible alignments for planned new roads in the Whiskey Ridge-Sunnyside area are among the agenda items scheduled for a meeting of the Planning Commission on Tuesday.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Marysville City Hall, 1049 State Ave.

The meeting is open to the public, but it is not a hearing. A public hearing on the plan is tentatively scheduled for July 24.

Mill Creek

Great gardeners honored by city

A dozen gardeners who live in Mill Creek have been honored with the city’s Great Garden Award.

Winners get yard signs placed in their yards through the end of July, and their names will be added to a plaque in the lobby of City Hall.

Members of the city’s Arts and Beautification Board drove through city neighborhoods and took pictures of people’s yards, then compared the photos to determine the winners.

The winners are: Garret and Diane Powers, W.A. Reitkerk, Richard Tompkins, Larry Kiel, Kathleen Swinford, Harold and Teresa Adams, Kum Yoou, Mark and Julie Campbell, Pauline and Roy Guinnane, Michael Bjorn, Ellison and Ronni Towle, and Roger and Beverly Girvin.

Monroe

$1 to help center send flowers

Each month, the East County Senior Center sends cards and flowers to many members. People can support this effort by donating $1 a month.

Mountlake Terrace

City plans party for Fourth of July

The city of Mountlake Terrace is planning a family Fourth of July celebration at Evergreen Playfield.

The festivities are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. July 4 at the field at 22205 56th Ave. W. Activities will include live music, a children’s entertainer, vendors and a city-sponsored fireworks show at 10 p.m.

Snohomish

Kiwanis Club has salmon barbecue

The Kiwanis Club of Snohomish-Tillicum is set to have its annual salmon barbecue from noon to 8 p.m. on July 21 and 22 at Hill Park near Blackmans Lake.

The two-day event is planned in conjunction with Kla Ha Ya Days festival. The event also includes a silent auction.

The cost is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $6 for children 6 to 10. Advance tickets can be purchased by calling 360-568-3590.
