Marysville

County installs porous sidewalk

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Wednesday for a new walkway at the intersection of 86th Place NE and 52nd Avenue NE in unincorporated Marysville.

The $115,000 walkway is made of porous asphalt, which allows water to soak through, according to officials at Snohomish County, which paid for the walkway. The material filters pollution and reduces erosion.

Savings in drainage costs allowed a 2,600-foot walkway to be built for the cost of a regular 800-foot walkway, according to the county.

The walkway, paid for with bonds, is located near Pinewood Elementary School.
