50 years ago (1957)
The Tacoma-Everett freeway was proposed to run through the city. It would leave the present highway near 41st Street and Broadway and go northeasterly, crossing Hewitt Avenue at Walnut Street. From there it would roughly parallel Summit Avenue until crossing the Snohomish River. All crossings would be over existing streets except at 23rd Street. On and off ramps were planned at 19th and 21st streets.
Mark L. Freed, a teacher at Lynnwood Junior High School for this past year, reported to Paine AFB for duty in the Air Force Reserve’s trainee program.
25 years ago (1982)
Gil and Beverly Wold and their dark blue 1936 Ford five-window coupe were among those participating in the 10th annual Arlington Pioneer Days Auto Show. Nearly 200 antique and classic automobiles would be rolling into town.
Emily Maldonado of Everett planned to run the Greek Marathon, which began in the Greek city of Marathon and ended in Athens Stadium. She was one of five or six runners from the Puget Sound area running to raise money for those without health care.
