Arlington

‘Twelfth Night’ at park Saturday

A performance of “Twelfth Night” is planned for 6 p.m. Saturday at Terrace Park, 809 E. Fifth St. Last Leaf Productions is planning the romantic comedy as part of Arlington’s Shakespeare in the Park program.

Friends of the Arlington Library is sponsoring the performance.

Edmonds

Art and sculpting classes offered

People who enjoy sculpting and crafting can take part in a series of classes from July 30-Aug. 2 being offered by Edmonds Parks &Recreation.

Crafts Exploration, for ages 5 and up, is scheduled from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Participants are expected to learn how to create collages, weave with straw looms, print with plates and use oil pastels. The cost is $69 plus a $5 supply fee.

Clay Exploration I, also for ages 5 and up, is scheduled from noon to 1:30 p.m. Participants are expected to learn how to work with clay to create animals, pots, vases or mugs. The cost is $47 plus a $5 supply fee.

Clay Exploration II, for people who’ve completed the previous Clay Exploration class, is scheduled from noon to 1:45 p.m. Participants are expected to make a figure or animal sculpture, a mask, box or a mug. The cost is $52 plus a $5 supply fee.

All classes are held at Edmonds Parks &Recreation at 700 Main St.

Outdoor movie offered tonight

Take advantage of a balmy evening and see “Over the Hedge” at Everett’s Cinema Under the Stars, an annual, summer-long festival featuring movies shown at Thornton A. Sullivan Park at Silver Lake.

“Over the Hedge,” a family-friendly animated film, will begin at 7 p.m. tonight at the park, at 11405 Silver Lake Road in Everett.

Volunteer heads to Kansas to help

Sally Odenborg, a longtime member of the Island County branch of the American Red Cross, is in Kansas helping people affected by recent floods. She is a member of the Camano Disaster Action team.

Lake Stevens

Commissioner reappointed

Tom Adams has been reappointed to a second six-year term on the Lake Stevens Civil Service Commission.

The volunteer panel develops rules for the city’s police department for promotions, eligibility lists for hiring, reviewing candidate applications and making hiring recommendations.

Mayor Vern Little proposed the reappointment and it was confirmed by the City Council on Monday.

Marysville

Mill Creek

Interim manager appointed for city

Acting Mill Creek City Manager Tim Burns has been named the city’s interim city manager until someone is found to fill the position permanently.

Burns, who is also public works director, was appointed acting city manager in late June after the departure of former City Manager Steve Nolen.

The City Council asked for Nolen’s resignation because of a difference in managerial styles, city officials said.

The city is hoping to hire a permanent city manager in about four months, Mayor Donna Michelson said.

Monroe

Sports programs for children start

The city’s parks and recreation department offers a variety of Skyhawks sports programs to children this summer.

The first soccer class is set to start Monday at Sky River Park. The cost for the five-day class is $113.

Mountlake Terrace

Free finance class set for students

Students who are heading to college can take part in a free personal finance workshop planned at the Mountlake Terrace Library.

The workshop is scheduled for 7 to 8:30 p.m. July 25 at the library at 23300 58th Ave. W. The event is sponsored by the Boeing Employees Credit Union.

Participants are expected to learn how to manage credit, create personal spending plans and protect their financial identities. Call 425-776-8722.

Mukilteo

Experiments set for science demo

A hands-on event to teach children about science is being planned for the Mukilteo Library.

The event, for children ages 5 to 11, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the library at 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Participants are expected to be able to watch science experiments and perform some on their own. Call the library at 425-493-8202.

Snohomish

Chalet offers free festival on Aug. 4

The 32nd annual Snohomish Chalet Summer Festival is set to run from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 4 at 1705 Terrace Ave.

The annual free festival features food, prizes, games and other activities.

The Snohomish Chalet has about 120 residents with traumatic brain injuries. It holds the festival as a way to thank the community for its support.
