The City of Edmonds offers a kickoff for Tobacco Free Parks at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Edmonds Daybreakers Rotary Pavilion in City Park, 600 Third Ave. S., Edmonds.

In 2001, the Snohomish Health District initiated a program to promote Tobacco Free Parks in communities throughout Snohomish County. Edmonds is joining 13 communities and Snohomish County in supporting the campaign to promote Tobacco Free Parks.

It is hoped that the elimination of tobacco in our parks and beaches will reduce staff and volunteer maintenance time and enhance the park experience.

In June, the Edmonds City Council unanimously endorsed the adoption of a “For Our Kids: Tobacco Free Parks” proclamation to include all city of Edmonds parks, beaches and trails.

Make sure limo has a license

Hiring a limousine for an August wedding?

Make sure it’s legal.

The state Department of Licensing cautions that all “for hire” transportation services must be licensed with the state.

Limousine operators are required to be licensed, carry sufficient liability insurance and undergo annual safety inspections by the Washington State Patrol. Chauffeurs must have completed a certified chauffeur training course and have passed the test, and have passed a State Patrol background check.

To find out if the limousine service you plan to use is licensed by the state, go to the Department of Licensing Web site at www.dol.wa.gov or call 360-664-1414.
