Banks competing to collect food

Banks in Lake Stevens are collecting food for the Lake Stevens Food Bank, and the food drive has become a competition.

Participating banks include North County Bank, Key Bank, BECU inside the Safeway store, Frontier Bank, Washington Mutual, Cascade Bank inside the Haggen store, Wells Fargo by the Albertsons store, and Wells Fargo downtown.

Collection bins will be placed in the banks Aug. 6-31. The bank that collects the most money and food will be awarded a banner that claims its customers “care the most.”

Marysville HomeGrown Festival has put out a call for vendors for its 22nd annual festival, set for Aug. 10 and 11 in downtown Marysville.

Sponsors wanted for Arlington golf tourney

Golfers and sponsors are needed for the Arlington Animals Golf Tournament on Aug. 25 at Gleneagle Golf Course.

Registration fees are $100 per golfer.

The Island County Chapter of the American Red Cross offers health and safety classes, such as first aid and baby-sitting, in August at its offices at 101 W. Ault Field Road in Oak Harbor.

Senior center needs mah jongg boards

A lot of people want to play mah jongg.

A new mah jongg class offered by the Snohomish Senior Center has drawn a big response, but the center needs at least one more game board to keep everybody playing.

Donations of boards can be made at the center’s temporary headquarters in the lower level small hall at 1514 Pine Ave. in Snohomish or by calling 360-568-0934.

Donate helmets and bikes for Terrace kids

Concern for Neighbors Food Bank in Mountlake Terrace wants to give bicycles and helmets to children from low-income families.

Families invited to join night out against crime

Families are encouraged to attend the seventh annual Neighborhood Night Out Against Crime. The event is set for 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the South Everett Neighborhood Center’s parking lot at 6315 Fleming St., Everett.

The free event especially welcomes families for whom English is a second language. Activities will help parents learn more about booster seat laws, child safety, emergency preparedness and local law enforcement officers.

Entertainment includes live music, family crafts and a bouncing gym for kids.

Walk, family health fair at park in Everett

World Breastfeeding Week is set to be celebrated in Everett Aug. 11 at Wiggums Hollow Park, 2808 10th St., Everett.

A one-mile annual walk in support of breastfeeding begins at 10:30 a.m. A family health fair through early afternoon at the park includes magic shows, live music, face painting, breastfeeding information and a silent auction.
