Yes, that was actor Tom Skerritt, who played Viper in “Top Gun,” eating lunch at The Sisters Restaurant Wednesday in Everett.

EdCC instructor muscles to third

Janet Guenther placed third in the National Physique Committee Team, Collegiate and Masters Nationals in Pittsburgh.

The bodybuilder, 56, is an Edmonds Community College physical education and health instructor.

“I was very excited about how I did,” she said. “The two above me were definitely on chemicals and I knew I couldn’t ever beat them, so third was like my first place.”

She said she was definitely the highest-rated “natural” woman bodybuilder.

Ways to save water outdoors

The International Arid Lands Consortium and Jewish National Fund say a faucet that leaks one drop per second can waste over 2,000 gallons of water per year. A leaking toilet can waste 200 gallons a day.

Here are some conservation tips for outdoors:

  • Water your lawn early in the morning or at night to minimize evaporation.

  • Don’t follow a fixed watering schedule. Water when the grass or plants show signs of needing it. Overwatering is bad for plants and lawns. It promotes shallow root growth, making your lawn less hardy. To determine if your lawn needs to be watered, simply walk across the grass. If you leave footprints, it’s time to water.

  • Use a broom instead of a hose to clean sidewalks or driveways.

  • Make sure your sprinkler is placed so it waters only the lawn, not adjoining pavement.

  • Wash your car with a bucket of soapy water and use a nozzle to stop the flow of water from the hose between rinsing.

  • Consider washing your car on the lawn, if possible, to reduce runoff.
