EVERETT – Detectives on Wednesday were following several tips they received about separate attacks on two women in south Everett over the weekend.
They also hung up fliers at businesses and apartment complexes in the area to alert people about the assaults, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said. A man attempted to sexually assault a woman, 26, on Saturday. A 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted Sunday.
Deputies have increased their patrols in the area, and people who live in the neighborhood are being advised to use caution and be alert of their surroundings.
No arrests have been made in the attacks. Detectives want to talk to two or three people, Hover said. She declined to provide any details about these people or why they are being investigated.
Detectives say they believe the same man is responsible for both attacks. There are some differences in the assaults that detectives continue to investigate, Hover said.
The first attack happened about 3 a.m. Saturday in the 12600 block of Eighth Avenue W. A woman noticed a man walking toward her. The man began to follow her for several blocks before he grabbed the woman. Her screams attracted the attention of neighbors, and the suspect fled.
The next day at 8 a.m., a 17-year-old girl was walking to work in the 12600 block of Fourth Avenue W. A man armed with a knife forced the girl to an area near some apartments and sexually assaulted her. He walked away after the attack.
The assailant in Saturday’s attack was described as a black man between 25 and 35 years old. He is about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and about 250 pounds with a muscular build. He possibly had stubble on his face and a tattoo on his left forearm.
The teenager described the suspect as a black man in his early 20s. She said he appeared to be about 5 feet, 11 inches tall with a thin but muscular build.
Anyone with information about the attacks is asked to call the sheriff’s tip line at 425-388-3845.
