ARLINGTON — One person died and another was critically injured Thursday night when the car they were in crashed head-on into a semi truck on Highway 530 near Arlington, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The accident happened about 7 p.m. about 5 miles east of Arlington. Investigators believe the car, a Honda Prelude, was heading east on the highway when it crossed the centerline on a curve, colliding with the westbound semi truck, State Patrol trooper Kirk Rudeen said.
The car’s driver, a male, died at the scene, Rudeen said. His passenger, a female, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. She was in critical condition, Rudeen said.
Further details about the two people who were in the car were unavailable Thursday night.
The truck driver was not injured, Rudeen said. The truck was hauling a load of lumber, Rudeen said.
The collision, just east of Jim Creek Road, blocked Highway 530 traffic in both directions. The state Department of Transportation had workers en route to the scene to provide traffic control.
The crash remains under investigation by the State Patrol.
