SNOHOMISH — A park has entered the space age.

Say goodbye to the old gigantic steel slides and the old tires bolted to wooden pilings. Meet the Super Nova at the new playground equipment at Lord Hill Regional County Park.

Snohomish County officials dedicated the new playground on Sept. 12 featuring state-of-the-art equipment to encourage children to play outside. The park, at 12921 150th St. SE, is among six playgrounds where Snohomish County has installed more than $600,000 worth of new playground equipment in recent months. It’s an unprecedented level of investment in equipment in a short time, according to county officials.

Marc Krandel, planning supervisor for county parks, spent a few minutes answering questions about the changes at Lord Hill Park.

Q: What equipment does the new playground have?

A: Arch swings. A cliff boulder for children to climb. And the Super Nova, a spinning disc big enough for children to stand and balance on.

The toys are meant for children 2 to 12 years old.

Q: What is the most popular playground equipment at the park?

A: Swings are always the most popular.

Q: Are those new toys safe?

A: The equipment is certified as safe and is inspected on a regular basis. Parents should supervise their children.

Q: What are the other five country parks where new playground equipment has been installed?

A: Kayak Point Regional Park: 15610 Marine Drive, Stanwood.

Machias Trailhead: 1600 Virginia St., Snohomish.

Meadowdale Beach Park: 6026 156th St. SW, Edmonds.

North Creek Park: 1011 183rd St. SE, Mill Creek.
