Arlington: Fur trade stories at library

Living history performer Karen Haas is scheduled to describe the days of the Pacific Northwest fur trade with songs, stories and a trunk full of tools at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Arlington Library, 135 N. Washington Ave.

Haas will talk about the various players in the 1800s fur trade, including Europeans, American Indians, Hawaiians and American settlers.

Marysville: Park sculpture dedicated

The Marysville Soroptimist Club recently dedicated a new sculpture at Ebey Waterfront Park, 1404 First St.

The club raised $3,000 for the sculpture of a child placing his toy sailboat into water. The statue was made by Big Bronze West of Carlsbad, Calif.

City maintenance workers installed the sculpture and it was dedicated Oct. 9.

Stanwood: Council talks property taxes

Property taxes and the city’s economic development plan are on the agenda for tonight’s City Council meeting. A public hearing on the 2008 property tax levy is scheduled. Everyone is welcome to speak at the hearing.

The council is also scheduled to discuss spending $98,000 to hire a contractor to develop an economic development plan for the city.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Stanwood-Camano School District Administration Building’s board room, 26920 Pioneer Highway.
