EdCC gets grant for literacy effort
It’s Adult Literacy Week.
Edmonds Community College recently received a $15,000 grant from Verizon to establish a Community Volunteer Literacy Center.
The college will open a new building, Mukilteo Hall, this winter, which will provide classrooms for its adult literacy programs. It also offers vocational health care training and introduction to college classes for students learning English as a second language.
Everett Community College also recently received a $9,950 grant from Verizon to support adult education students. The grant provides funding for school-related expenses, such as textbooks, child care and other needs.
Correction
The two candidates for the District 2 seat on the Snohomish County Council are Brian Sullivan, a Democratic state legislator from Mukilteo, and Bill Cooper, a Republican and former Mukilteo police chief. A headline over a story about the race on Page A1 on Tuesday incorrectly described the background of the two candidates.
