Everett honors veterans

Sunday is Veteran’s Day. Naval Station Everett offers its annual Veterans Day Celebration in honor of Armed Forces members past, present and future.

Veterans service organizations also will be present to display information about their groups, including Snohomish County Veterans Assistance, Everett Veterans Center, Veterans Reintegration Services and others.

The celebration is at 11 a.m. today at the Commons Grand Vista Ballroom at Naval Station Everett.

All veterans are invited to attend. Get to the main gate by 10:45 a.m. Inform the gate guards that you are there for the Veteran’s Day program, and you will be directed to the Commons parking lot. No special identification is required.

Veterans Day began as Armistice Day in 1919 as a recognition of the end of World War I. The law recognizing the national holiday was changed in 1954 to rename the day Veterans Day.

Currently, there are about 24 million military veterans living in the United States.
