There’s snowy fun for all in Mill Creek

MILL CREEK — There’s snow by the truckloads at Gold Creek Community Church.
Literally.
The church is celebrating an event called Snow Days, a holiday festival featuring a plethora of different activities for the young and the young at heart.
Oh, and did someone mention snow?
“We’ve got 10 double semi-trailers loaded with snow coming out from Snoqualmie Pass,” worship Pastor Larry Ehoff said.
Snow Days is an annual event now in its fourth year. It began as a simple outreach to kids and has grown over the years. Last year’s event included a “rail grinding” exhibition by professional snowboarders who brought a rail from a ski resort at Snoqualmie Pass and performed all manner of tricks.
This year, the church is launching things with a ramp, and expects to draw inner-tubers from across the country.
“Last year we had a ‘Rail Jam’ event that was pretty cool, but this year we built a ramp,” Ehoff said. “The ramp is 8 feet high and 12 feet wide.”
And while the kids catch air off the newly constructed ramp, adults are invited to a cafe providing cold-weather fare: hot apple cider, hot chocolate, baked potatoes and chili.
“We have five inflatables for kids to jump around in who want to warm up after playing in the snow,” Ehoff said. “We also have a room that’s dedicated to making gingerbread houses, and we also have some computers where kids can create their very own virtual snowflake.”
In addition, Ehoff says, there will be fashion shows of winter clothing and skiing and snowboarding equipment by Mt. Pilchuck Ski &Sport and Grizzly Sports.
The church also will be accepting canned goods for the Lynnwood Food Bank.
As for the weather, Ehoff isn’t concerned. Snow Days will happen rain or shine.
“Last year it rained, and we thought that there wouldn’t be many kids,” Ehoff said. “And we wound up having over 2,000 people and the kids stood in line to go sled down the hill anyway. Not only did they show up, they had a good time as well.”
