Edmonds: Seattle Opera at library
Find out about upcoming events at the Seattle Opera during a one-hour presentation planned at the Edmonds Library.
The presentation is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the library, 650 Main St.
Participants are expected to learn about the stories, composers and cultural context of the operas.

Lynnwood: Yim named to EdCC board
Emily Yim of Lynnwood has been appointed to the Edmonds Community College Board of Trustees.
Yim, director of the Lynnwood Department of Neighborhoods, is scheduled to serve on the community college’s governing board until Sept. 30, 2012.
Previously, Yim was vice president of Washington Mutual Bank’s community and external affairs division. She has also served as a board member with the International District Housing Alliance.
Mill Creek: Seniors hold club meetings
The Mill Creek Seniors Club begins meeting this month in the Mill Creek Community Room.
The first meeting is scheduled for noon Monday in the community room at City Hall at 15728 Main St. The group meets the first and third Monday of each month.
The upcoming meeting is planned as a business meeting with games of bingo. A potluck is planned for the Jan. 21 meeting. People who attend that meeting are asked to bring something to share.
Monroe: Concert band needs players
The Monroe Community Concert Band is seeking clarinet and percussion players.
The band practices from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursdays at New Hope Fellowship Church, 1016 W. Main St. The band’s next practice is on Jan. 10.
The band includes people who hadn’t played instruments for years. The nonprofit group plays at community events.

Mountlake Terrace: Join library book club
Readers can attend this month’s meeting of the Second Tuesday Book Discussion Group planned for the Mountlake Terrace Library.
The group meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the library, 23300 58th Ave. W.
This month’s featured book is “The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of Those Who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl,” by Timothy Egan.
