Everett: Brown bag book talk today

The Everett Public Library’s Brown Bag Book Discussion continues today at noon. The group meets once a month to talk about books.

The meeting at the Main Library training room, 2702 Hoyt Ave., is open to anyone. Guests are welcome to bring a sack lunch.

Rinker quarry eyed for multifamily use

The Evergreen Neighborhood Association is scheduled to meet at 7 tonight at Evergreen Middle School, 7621 Beverly Lane, to talk about proposed zoning changes that could pave the way to a multifamily housing development with up to 2,150 units.

Rinker Materials, which runs a quarry at 6300 Glenwood Ave., hopes to have about 100 acres that are now designated for industrial use rezoned to allow for residential and commercial development.

The planning commission and the City Council are scheduled to vote on the proposal later this year. A city planner is scheduled to attend the meeting to answer questions.

South Forest Park meeting set for today

Everett’s South Forest Park Neighborhood Association is scheduled to meet at 7 tonight at Zion Lutheran Church, 4634 Alger Ave. A city planning department official is set to give a brief workshop on how the planning department works.

Residents are encouraged to bring questions. South Forest Park is bounded by 41st Street-Mukilteo Boulevard to the north, Evergreen Way to the east, Pecks Drive to the south and Pigeon Creek to the west.

Snohomish: Event features martial arts

In celebration of the Lunar New Year, the Snohomish Library plans to play host to a performance from the Seattle Wushu Center at 11 a.m. Saturday. The library is at 311 Maple Ave.

Members of the center are expected to demonstrate their acrobatics, running jumps and martial arts routine. Afterwards, participants are expected to listen to a few stories and make a craft to take home.

Mukilteo: Writing event at library

Teens interested in creative writing are invited to share their work at an event planned for the Mukilteo Library.

The event, Write Stuff, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 24 at the library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd. Food will be provided.
