Marysville: Food gifts reach 17 tons

Donations enabled the Marysville Community Food Bank to serve more than 600 families during the holiday season.

The food bank delivered food boxes that included turkey, ham or a gift certificate for meat at one of several local grocery stores.

Also, about 1,500 children received Christmas gifts from the toy store sponsored by Operation Marysville Community Christmas, according to food bank president Michael Mulligan.

The food bank collected 13,000 pounds of food in red barrels placed in businesses, while Marysville schools rounded up 21,000 pounds more, according to Mulligan. Other individual donations were accepted as well.

Nearly 100 food bank volunteers worked to distribute boxes and deliver them to homes, Mulligan said.
