EVERETT — When an intruder was discovered in their garage Sunday evening, an Everett couple took matters into their own hands.

The homeowner ran after the alleged burglar, tackling him. His wife called 911.

When police arrived a few minutes later, officers found the couple sitting on the suspect in the alley behind their Oakes Avenue residence, according to charging papers filed Wednesday in Snohomish County Superior Court.

The intruder, a 31-year-old neighbor, was charged with one count of second-degree burglary. He was being held on $10,000 bail.

The suspect told police that he was just “passing through” on his way home, deputy prosecutor Chris Dickinson said in charging papers.

However, the intruder couldn’t explain why he was carrying several of the homeowner’s tools when confronted, court papers said.
