Survey of homeless people on for today
An annual survey of homeless people in Snohomish County will be conducted today, with volunteers fanning out from Arlington, Everett, Lynnwood and Monroe to look for homeless adults and families.
In addition to getting an annual tally of the number of homeless people, volunteers ask the homeless what services are most helpful.
Last year, 2,666 people identified themselves to the volunteers as homeless. Of these, 800 were families with children.
Humane Society has dog blankets
If you are low-income and have an outside dog that cannot be brought in, or a dog that lives in an unheated garage or other area, the Humane Society in Arlington has about 30 queen-sized woolen blankets available for dogs. It also has a few dog houses. Dog food can be obtained from its Dog Food Bank in Arlington on weekend afternoons, or earlier for special circumstances.

Program needs volunteer advocates
Volunteers are needed to help adults living in nursing homes, assisted-living facilities and adult family homes throughout Snohomish County.
Volunteer ombudsmen serve as advocates, educators, investigators and problem-solvers. They receive four days of training and are asked to volunteer four hours a week. Expenses, including mileage, are reimbursed.
The Snohomish County Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program will offer a four-day training session Feb. 28 and 29 and March 6 and 7. For more information, contact Michal Glauner at 425-388-7393 or michal.glauner@co.snohomish.wa.us.
