LYNNWOOD — He thought $500 could buy his way to freedom.
It didn’t.
A car prowler, caught in the act early Monday in Lynnwood, is accused of trying to bribe his captor, according to court documents.
The prowler, a Medina man, 30, with a long history of running afoul of the law, was spotted inside a car when another man tried to stop him, the documents said.
The prowler took off and the man chased him for about a mile through brush and woods.
The man captured the prowler and held him until police arrived.
While they waited for police, the prowler offered the man $500 cash in exchange for his freedom.
The prowler apologized and wanted the man to “let him go and not call the police,” according to the documents.
When police arrested the man for investigation of bribing a witness, he had more than $800 cash, the documents said.
Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies also found several vehicles in the area that had been broken into.
Now, the car prowl suspect is being held at the Snohomish County Jail. He’ll need more than $500 to gain his freedom.
A judge set bail at $25,000.
