Lynn. Police plan 9/11 event

Flags flown over “Ground Zero” in New York will be raised in a ceremony at the Lynnwood Police Department on Sept. 11.

The flags were presented to the Lynnwood Police Department by the New York Port Authority Police Department when Lynnwood officers delivered a Memorial Shadow Box to them on Aug. 23.

With the permission of Lynnwood Police Chief Steve Jensen, those flags will be flown over the Lynnwood Police Department on Sept. 11, from sunrise until 6 p.m.. There will be a formal “retiring of the colors” beginning at 5 p.m. on Sept. 11 at the police department, 19321 44th Ave. W. in Lynnwood. Honor guards from the Washington State Patrol, Seattle, Everett and the Marine Corps will be at the event to assist. There will be the minute of sirens, 21 bells, bag pipes and trumpet as well.

MLT Blood drive to remember 9/11

The City of Mountlake Terrace has organized a blood drive for Thursday, Sept. 11 in the Civic Center/Library parking lot from 1 to 7 p.m. The entire process, which includes a health history questionnaire, a brief physical exam, blood donation, as well as refreshments for the donors, usually takes about forty-five minutes. The blood drive will feature a Puget Sound Blood Center “blood mobile” that will accommodate walk-ins as well as those individuals who contact HR Manager Mike Pivec (744-6216 or E-mail mpivec@ci.mountlake-terrace.wa.us) in advance to schedule an appointment. To minimize your wait to donate on that day, plan to make an appointment.

9/11 unity event at local church

Meadowdale Baptist Church invites the community for a day of remembrance and unity on Sept. 11.

From 7 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 11, there will be a special remembrance service to mark the two year anniversary of September 11 attacks on the United States and to give honor to those who are fighting the War on terrorism or who have died trying.

Lynn. FD raises money for MDA

During their two day “Fill the Boot” fundraiser recently on two busy Lynnwood street corners, the Lynnwood Fire Department raised $11,055 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. According to the fundraiser’s coordinator, Lynnwood raised the most money for MDA in the north Sound Region.

Talk biz with Lynn. Mayor

Church and biz join to help kids

Terwedo Financial Services, LLC in Edmonds and Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynnwood have joined together and will prepare school kits for children in the South Snohomish County area.

The event sponsored by Trinity Lutheran is called “Tons of Love Sunday.”

Beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7, activities will include door-to-door food collection, grocery store food collection, quilting, assembling school and health kits, sorting and packing clothing, and prayer, a press release stated. Some items needed for the preparation of the school kits include crayons, pencils, notebook paper, tab dividers and scissors.

MLT City Council candidate forum

The Mountlake Terrace Seniors Group has organized a Meet the Candidates for the Mountlake Terrace City Council forum for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21 at the Mountlake Terrace library, next to the city hall on 58th Ave. W..

The Mountlake Terrace City Council candidates are: Pat Cordova who is running against Michelle Nobles, A.J. Housler who is running against John Zambrano and Laura Sonmore who is running against Eric Teegarden.

Walk for MLT’s Chauncey Jones

At the young age of 20, Chauncey Jones, a 1998 graduate of Mountlake Terrace High School, was diagnosed with Leukemia. Chauncey’s fight was brief and intense, lasting only four months.

To honor his life, his family and friends or “Chauncey’s Team” have joined together and organized a fund raising walk to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in his name.

“Light the Night Walk” has been organized from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20 at Greenlake in Seattle. There will be food, raffle prizes and other activities at this event.

Individuals or businesses can designate themselves as part of the “Team” and collect pledges. They can opt to walk in the walk and/or put up posters or donate food or raffle items.

A shuttle will be available to all participants for the walk and leaves from the 65th and Ravenna Park and Ride frequently to shuttle participants to Greenlake. Walkers should meet and sign in at the Amphitheater at Greenlake at 6 p.m. The shuttle will transport people back and forth all evening long.

Sexual predator housing hearing

The Lynnwood City Council will conduct a public hearing on an ordinance that regulates the location of a facility which could house, treat and supervise violent predatory sex offenders in Lynnwood.

Free and safe fun for teens

The Neutral Zone, a non-profit organization which benefits at risk youth, continues its safe and supervised Friday and Saturday night programs from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Scriber Lake High School, 20525 52nd Ave. W in Lynnwood. Donate an old cell phone for safety

Project Donate a Phone is back on and the need is high, say officials for The Snohomish County Center for Battered Women.

The center is in need of old or new cellular phones, even ones with missing parts can help, Center officials said. Usable cell phones will be provided free to all women who use the center’s services. In case of emergency old phones can still be used to dial 911. The ones that can’t be used will be recycled to a business who has agreed to pay the non-profit organization for parts. To donate phones, drop them off at the Mountlake Terrace Police Department at 5906 232nd St. SW or to the Snohomish County Center for Battered Women at 1310 Pacific Avenue in Everett #5 (corner of Grand and Pacific) or Mr. Bill’s restaurant at the Everett Mall. Play dates for children -5

There is an ongoing play group from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursdays at Maplewood Presbyterian Church at 19523 84th Ave. W. ESL conversation group in Lynnwood

Free car seat checks in Lynnwood

Motor vehicle crashes are the single largest cause of child fatalities in the country, officials said.

However, proper child seat safety can reduce the risk of injury or death by 70 percent, officials added, if the car seat is installed correctly. Lynnwood Police have recently nationally certified five technicians to help parents and care givers be sure their precious cargo is as safe as possible.

Free car seat checks are now available every Wednesday from noon to 8 p.m. by appointment, at the Lynnwood Police Station at 19321 44th Avenue West. Checks take about 30 to 45 minutes to complete and it is best to have the child there for the check. For more info. or to make an appointment call 425-744-6900.

All courts in Washington including Lynnwood Municipal and South Snohomish County District Court are on the site except for Seattle Municipal Court.

Given that court proceedings may be rescheduled at any time, official said, users are encouraged to call their local court the morning of their appearance.
