Thai Cottage a cozy retreat

I invited a friend to join me for an exciting Saturday evening dinner in downtown Edmonds. We decided to walk around until we found something worth writing about, or just got so hungry that we didn’t care anymore. We luckily happened upon Thai Cottage and after peering in the window, we decided that if the food tasted as good as the interior looked, we would be just fine.
The restaurant was somewhat small, and full, but there were still several unoccupied tables. We were immediately greeted by a waitress, who led the way to a very large table for two. We were handed menus, poured glasses of water and prepared to have an exciting meal.
Because I do not eat any meats besides chicken and turkey, ordering is usually relatively easy for me. However, I immediately noticed that Thai Cottage offers many vegetarian options, as well as selections that include chicken. Due to my self-imposed protein restrictions, I decided to order the Satay Chicken for an appetizer. It arrived in 11 minutes and consisted of four marinated chicken skewers served with cucumber salad and peanut sauce. The perfect amount for the two of us.
For my entree, I decided I couldn’t go wrong with an item from the list of specialties. Due to the fact that I could order it with chicken, and its exciting name, I selected the “Sizzling Delight.” Directly after I ordered, the lights dimmed and the waitress brought over a candle. How romantic.
During our meal, my dining companion and I observed the atmosphere. Extremely peaceful, there was quite a bit of room between tables, and the decor was more elegant than other Thai restaurants we had dined at before. We saw some books about Thailand that were laying on the counter — very nice for the more intellectual crowd.
Our meals arrived directly after theirs, and my entree lived up to its name as it was brought, still sizzling, to my table. The “delight” consisted of stir-fried carrots, cabbage, snow peas, onions, Thai soy sauce and Coriander seeds. For lack of better terminology, I will simply say that my meal was extremely good — and exciting. There was plenty of chicken and the vegetables were cooked just the perfect amount.
Finally, it was time for dessert. I was extremely full at this point, but decided that dessert would be the perfect finale for what had been such an exciting meal so far. Putting my faith in the waitress, and her recommendation, I decided to try the fresh mango. It was promptly brought out to our table. On a small plate, there appeared eight slices of mango, with sweet sticky rice on the side. My friend and I both commented on the fact that we didn’t even think we liked mango until now.
