Local student earns scholarship

Christopher C. Mitchell, a 2005 graduate of Archbishop Murphy High School, received a Ruth and Fred Schroeder Scholarship worth $1,500. Mitchell is a Washington State University freshman studying business. He is the son of Shawn and Craig Mitchell of Edmonds.

Lovick hosts band fund-raiser

The Jackson High School Band students will be the featured entertainment from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 at the home of Karen and John Lovick. Karen and John are serving up John’s famous Cajun deep-fried turkey, hot wings and jojo potatoes. All are welcome to this fund-raising event with suggested donations of $25 per person. All funds will go to the Jackson High School band to be used for the band’s programs, including the students’ spring music tour and to purchase new equipment for the band program. School district holding career fair

The Snohomish County community is invited to attend the “What about tomorrow? Career and College Fair” hosted by the Everett School District and WorkSource Snohomish County from 4-8 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Everett Events Center.

More than 50 colleges and representatives from the top 10 Snohomish County employment sectors will be present to answer questions and share information. Resume and interview consultations and breakout sessions will also be available.

The career fair is free to all ages and will give attendees the opportunity to explore jobs and schools that can start them on a career path. More than 50 community colleges and universities, trade and apprenticeship programs and career training program representatives will be in attendance to answer questions and provide information.

AMHS hosts golf tournament

Archbishop Murphy High School is hosting its ninth annual golf tournament with a shotgun start at noon, Oct. 10 at the Mill Creek Country Club. All proceeds from the tournament go toward the tuition assistance fund at Archbishop Murphy High School, to help students who might not otherwise be able to afford a quality Catholic college preparatory education.

Wine-grower scholarships

The Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers is offering Dr. Walter J. Clore Scholarships, which are open to students planning to pursue a degree in viticulture and/or enology. The deadline for entry is Dec. 31.

The selection is made through the Washington Wine Industry Foundation based on merit, leadership and interest in viticulture and/or enology.
