Brad Nelson, who oversees the city of Snohomish’s finances, is leaving his job in February to work for the Silver Lake Water District in Mill Creek.

“I’m excited about joining the Silver Lake team. They are facing a lot of growth opportunities,” Nelson, 43, said.

Nelson said he will start as the finance manager at the water district on Feb. 8.

His annual pay at the district will be $84,000, said Patrick Curran, the district’s general manager.

The water district now serves about 40,000 people, including more than half of the city of Mill Creek, Curran said. It created the new finance manager position to keep up with its increasing customer base.

“I’m expecting (Nelson) will do a whole lot more than just managing money,” Curran said.

Nelson said he came to Snohomish about 12 years ago to work as a treasurer. For the last seven years, he has worked as the support services director, overseeing the city’s finances and other matters. His salary was $93,108 at the city.

“It was a very difficult decision to leave the city of Snohomish,” Nelson said.

Nelson was known for good customer service and he will be missed, Mayor Randy Hamlin said.

“He provided a lot of stability,” Hamlin said. “He was a very pleasant personality to deal with.”
