It’s J.P. Patches Day in Olympia

J.P. Patches, aka Chris Wedes of Edmonds, will be honored at 11 a.m. today at the state Capitol rotunda in Olympia.

The governor’s office asked Sultan sculptor Kevin Pettelle to unveil his work in progress of a statue honoring J.P. and his sidekick Gertrude. The sculpture marks the 50th anniversary of the show’s first broadcast in the Northwest in February 1958.

A life-size bronze statue is planned in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle in June after enough money is raised.

Capitol visitors services can be reached at 360-902-8881. Statue information is at www.jppatches.com.
