Active Duty

Casey J. Nielsen, son of Sandra Nielsen of Lincoln, Neb., and Charles Nielsen of Oak Harbor, recently enlisted in the Navy. Nielsen will report for active duty to undergo basic training at the Navy’s Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill.

Army Sgt. Matthew Borgen of Lynnwood recently was promoted to his current rank and received the Army Achievement Award while serving in Iraq. Borgen is serving as a medic in Iraq with the 3-7 Infantry Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division. Borgen also recently finished tops in a training exercise competition that highlighted his skills as medic. He has been in Iraq since October. Borgen is the son of Erik and Suzanne Borgen of Lynnwood, the fiance of Jessica Parks of Maple Valley and the brother of Christopher Borgen, who recently joined the delayed entry program for the Navy.
